The Grapevine Project

Originally, this site started as Chiang Mai Grapevine in the beginning of 2013 when two crazy Frenchmen and longtime Chiang Mai lovers decided to map the entire city and list each and every businesses, shop and restaurant that could interest foreigners. Of course, that's hardly doable especially because Thai businesses often flip ownership every few months or so, but the idea was admirable, though a bit crazy.

One of them went around on a scooter every day for a period of more than a year to take pictures of every place and map it with exact coordinates. After he had listed more than 6,000 businesses he felt a bit tired and decided give up and leave the city.

By that time, the online directory had become the best in Chiang Mai, actually, the best in the country.

A few new people stepped in to let all this work not slip down the drain, they restructured and added a lot of in-depth articles and Chiang Mai Locator was born.

Right now, Chiang Mai Locator has more than 7,000 (!) businesses listed with exact location, decription and pictures. No other website or organisation can offer such detailed and extensive information. Google Maps is often incorrect because many Thai shop owners don't know how to read a map, and Tripadvisor tends to be dominated by short-term tourists, to name a few other resources.

Of course we can't keep all this information up-to-date all the time, so we rely on you to help us suggest edits or new businesses.

Chiang Mai Locator operates with the help of a small team of freelance professionals working remotely from their own location, this is why we don't have a physical office.

Hi!
I have a pretty extensive Cafe blog with a listing of over 100 cafes.(please see http://www.chiangmaicoffeeculture.com). I was wondering if you were interested in a partnership of some kind? I am looking to promote my blog and share the cafes with the local chiang Mai community.
Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas about how we can work together.
Thanks,
Laura!
