Itineraries for a holiday in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is one of Thailand's most preferred holiday places. When you're tired of the density of Bangkok, and bored of beach life in the South, come indulge yourself in the mountains, culture and city life of Chiang Mai.

What kind of itinerary is good depends on how much time you have and what kind of activity you like to do. Here are some suggested itineraries.

I. Stay of up to 1/2 week

• visit Chiang Mai's most interesting temples
• enjoy a Thai massage: if you want to try something different, try a blind massage.
• visit an elephant camp: some of them are more eco and animal friendly.
• visit the Tiger Kingdom, snake farm or other attractions in Maerim area
• do a river cruise
• chill out at the river
• enjoy a kantoke dinner and dance show
• buy souvenirs and other stuff at the Nightbazar or at the Sunday market

II. Stay of 1 week

All of the above, plus:

• visit Doi Suthep: for a view over the city. Not always good views though, depends on the weather.
• swing a zipline in the Thai rain forest
• take a bicycle tour in the surroundings
• do a cooking course

II. Stay of 2 weeks

All of the above, plus:

• do a silver making workshop
• visit a hot spring

III. Stay of 1 month

All of the above, plus:

• do a massage workshop
• shop for furniture in Bantawai
• shop for souvenirs in Bosang

IV. Stay of 1-3 months

All of the above, plus:

• make tours in the surroundings on a motorcycle or by car
• play golf
• do yoga
• do a Vippassana meditation course in a temple
• study Thai
• volunteer
