Taphae Gate is Chiang Mai's most famous and most important gate, located in the middle of the eastern side of the moat. It is also the gravitational center of the city. All major festivities are centered around Taphae Gate and the square to the east of it. There are often markets, performances and other events, and people hang out here just to relax or meet others.
