While in a distant past, several decades ago, soapy massage parlours were the standard in Thailand, with plenty of large parlours opening up in a so-called fishbowl setting, where you could sit down and watch and pick a girl from behind a glass, nowadays the new trend in the sexual massage world is of course nuru massage.
Nuru massage originated from Japan, where a certain gel called nuru [ぬる] was produced, originally from nori seaweed. It originated from Kawasaki in the latter half of the 20th century.
‘Nuru’ [ぬる] means slippery," "slick," or "smooth."
The distinctive features of nuru is that it is very slippery, it allowed for full skin body-to-body contact. It is also slimy and transparent, which resembles both the looks and the feel of fluids from the human body during sexual excitement.
The essence of nuru massage is that it enables the massage practitioner to slide over your body in full body contact in a very smooth and exciting way, while it can make you feel more excited as it (unconsciously) reminds you of bodily fluids.
Nuru gel comes in many different brands and grades and is usually diluted with water by massage girls to create the right substance, thin or thick enough to slide over your body with. Interestingly, most girls also use the same gel as a lubricant while they’re on the nuru body-to-body job, instead of using KY or special lubricants separately.
While the original nuru gel is completely natural and good for skin, modern chemically produced nuru gels may contain high content of glycerin, synthetic thickeners and even sometimes alcohol or preservatives, which may dehydrate your skin.
In my experience, most nuru gels nowadays used in Thai nuru massage parlours have a dehydrating effect on your skin, the degree of which depends on the quality of the nuru gel in that shop.
So if you notice after a full hour of rubbing with nuru gel and showering in between or after that your skin has become dryer, you should apply lotion after when you come home.
Most girls working with nuru gel every day use either lotion or (baby) oil to moisturise or protect their skin.
That’s a good question and the truth is that actually for the essence of nuru body-to-body massage, it is absolutely not necessary to use nuru gel. In fact, massage oil does a better job in being slippery for a longer time. Typically, nuru gel dries up over time and rinses away so the girl needs to use a lot to keep sliding.

Nevertheless, if the massage girl is handy enough, she can do exactly the same session and better sliding her body against you with massage oil and wipe both your genitals clean enough for genital intercourse using a condom.
So in essence, the same session is very well possible with massage oil and some girls in fact prefer to use massage oil instead of nuru gel.
The main difference then lays in the visible effects, some slimy feeling and the name of the massage parlour as being “NURU”, which is popular in public view.
Some girls in the body-to-body massage sector in Thailand actually never heard of the word ‘nuru’, when you ask them, and they can still do an excellent job.
The standard nuru massage session usually begins with a shower together with the girl. It will depend on the shop’s training and the girl’s service level how much play is incorporated in the shower phase already.
Often, a so-called Sukebe chair is used to let the customer sit down while the space under his genitals is completely left open by the shape of the chair. Hence the name Sukebe chair, which can freely be translated as the ‘dirty’ chair.
Now mind you, many body-to-body massage or nuru massage parlours never use the Sukebe chair, even though it is resting in the so-called wet zone of the room.
It’ll depend on the shops practises and the girl whether all possible and exciting aspects of nuru / body-to-body massage are actually utilised.
Using nuru gel in various phases of the phases in the wet zone, the girl can then play with her body, breasts, mouth, lips, and so on to turn you on.
Typically, in Bangkok a bare blowjob follows as a standard rule imposed by shops. In other cities, like Chiang Mai, this may or may not be enforced. In general, we do not recommend bare blowjobs by working girls, only by girls you see regularly and more or less exclusively, although the temptation of bare pleasure is often irresistible and most of the time without consequences (but not always!).
Then, body-to-body sliding is applied on the so-called nuru massage mattress with nuru gel and here it also depends on the shop’s training and the girl’s service level how many positions are used, what is her skill, how she keeps it interesting and exciting.
Nowadays, in many shops in Bangkok, using mouth, lips and tongue are also mandatory on several of the customer’s intimate parts, such as feet, toes, asshole and genitals.
Typically, finally follows full-service (sex) either on the nuru massage mattress or on the bed. On the bed is more comfortable to attain several positions, but there wil be an interruption to rinse of nuru gel or soap and dry off before going over to the bed.
A bathtub or jacuzzi is often supplied in the VIP rooms at an extra fee (typically THB 500), to allow for more slow relaxation before or after the heated session.
That is entirely up to you, if you feel that the girl did a splendid job, you're of course free to tip her. When the package price is say THB 2000 up, you should of course not tip her THB 50, but at least THB 200 up, it should be in proportion to the package price.
But in my observation, most customers don't tip since the package price is already high and should include all the extras that you want.
It's not really a good practice to ask for all kinds of extras when the package already goes all the way, most girls won't be in for all kinds of specialty such as face sitting, licking or whatever is your desire, it will normally already be in the menu.
The only exception is when you book a plain body-to-body massage with HJ and then negotiate to go all the way with the girl. In some places, you end up with a higher total bill, in others, it can be lower. In general, it's best to stick to the menu and then it's not necessary to pay a tip for those negotiated extras.
It's good practice to tip a girl if you feel she did a great job, a few hundred baht will make her happy.

In Chiang Mai, there are fewer nuru massage parlours, most body-to-body massage parlours are either plain brothels without body-to-body massage or with a little body-to-body massage. There are a few nuru places in the Changklan area, but not the most ethical shops in town, and a few spread out elsewhere in town, but the best shop for nuru massage, body-to-body massage and full service are nowadays clearlyin Nimman with Lola Love Massage leading with innovation and superior service.
